Projects
THESE PROJECTS ARE INDICATIVE
LIDo makes a call for new DTP projects after we have recruited our students. Projects are proposed by academics based at the LIDo institutions, they must be demonstrably interdisciplinary, apply diverse research approaches to explore fundamental biological questions, and fall within the BBSRC remit.
All submitted projects are reviewed against these criteria by a group of independent LIDo academics. The final approved portfolio of at least 200 projects is made available by the end of July before students start the programme in September.
Each project proposal comprises essential background information, an overview of the PhD project, and a description of a linked rotation project.
You will complete two rotation projects in your first year on the LIDo programme. Each rotation gives you an invaluable opportunity to challenge yourself in a new research area, get to know the supervisors, the host lab and the wider research group, and to evaluate the potential of the overall PhD project.
The projects are organised into broad themes. However, while you may have a preferred theme for one of your rotations, this is your opportunity to jump out of your comfort zone and explore something new. So, be bold and look for something novel and challenging – you never know, you may surprise yourself and open up an unexpected vista of discovery!
