Pericytes located on capillaries have various functions in the brain including, blood vessel formation, blood–brain barrier maintenance, cerebral blood flow regulation, amyloid β clearance, neuroinflammation, glial scar formation and they all exhibit properties of stem cells.
Therapeutically targeting pericytes may therefore be a valuable approach for the treatment of various neurological diseases such as stroke or Alzheimer's disease (Click here to read full publication)
