On Friday 16th September over 150 LIDo students, alumni, academic staff, and invited guests came together to celebrate a decade of the programme. We were delighted to hear talks from our esteemed alumni and offer the opportunity for our current students to share their research via posters during lunch. It was smiles all around as connections were refreshed and relationships built. The day ended in the astonishing Painted Hall, part of the Royal Naval Buildings at LIDo consortium partner the University of Greenwich where we toasted 10 wonderful years and looked forward to many more.
LIDo is a huge collaborative effort. It works because those involved from all partner institutions believe in its philosophy and enthusiastically give their time and creative ideas to make it a success. LIDo is truly more than the sum of its constitutive parts. The collegiality of the academic and professional staff involved and the willingness of our associate partners to become integrally involved in the running of the programme is the foundation for its success.
LIDo has gained three rounds of BBSRC funding, expanded from its original 5 partners to its current 8, admitted over 430 of the most talented science graduates from the UK and abroad, and has already graduated 210 outstanding professional interdisciplinary scientists, destined to become leaders in their fields.
We hope all could agree there is much to celebrate after 10 years and plenty to look forward to over the next decade with this exciting, constantly evolving programme.
