In2Science

In2scienceUK is an award-winning social mobility charity which exists to unlock the potential of young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and underrepresented groups and empower them to progress to vibrant careers in STEM. We also aim to boost diversity and inclusion in the sector to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of STEM-based industries.

I’m a student who wants to access the opportunities and programmes from In2ScienceUK. How do I apply?

We run three dynamic programmes which are completely free: In2STEM and In2research offer in-person placements and careers workshops for Year 12 students and undergraduates respectively, while our online In2careers platform provides exclusive careers resources and opportunities.

What does the programme offer?

In2STEM is an opportunity for 16-19 year olds to achieve their potential in STEM through work experience placements, skills and employability workshops and competitions throughout the summer.

Our year-long programme complements studies or work and helps to pave the way for postgraduate research degrees and academic careers. You must be a second-year undergraduate or above or a graduate to take part. The programme includes a funded eight-week summer research placement, mentoring, workshops and more.

The In2careers community provides access to opportunities including employability workshops and skills clinics, peer mentoring, industry networking and events, work experience and internships. We have more than 2000 users and counting!

When does it run?

Across July and August every year

A year-long programme, with applications opening in August, but you can express your interest in the 2025/6 programme here beforehand.

All year round!

How can I take part?

Student and volunteer applications are open now until 2 February! We are always looking for STEM professionals to inspire the next generation of researchers and innovators by hosting a placement or mentoring our young people.

Visit our volunteers page for more information and apply today.

If you're looking to make a difference and help build inclusive pathways to research, we’d love to have you onboard! You can support us by supervising a research placement or giving insight into research careers by becoming a mentor.

Visit our volunteers page for more information. Applications are currently closed, but you can express your interest here.

We are always looking for opportunities for collaboration, whether it’s to co-host a workshop, arrange a site visit or to simply spread the word about us via your networks. Please get in touch with careers@in2scienceuk.org if you have any questions or to discuss further how we could work together.
