In2Science

In2scienceUK is an award-winning social mobility charity which exists to unlock the potential of young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and underrepresented groups and empower them to progress to vibrant careers in STEM. We also aim to boost diversity and inclusion in the sector to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of STEM-based industries.

We run two dynamic programmes that are completely free: In2STEM and In2Research. Both programmes offer in-person placements and careers workshops, and we continue to support our participants through an active alumni network with access to opportunities, events and guidance beyond the programme.

What do the programmes offer?

In2STEM
In2STEM is an opportunity for year 12 or S5/S6 students to achieve their potential in STEM through hands-on work experience placements, skills and employability workshops, and competitions delivered throughout the summer.

In2Research
In2Research is a year-long programme designed to complement your studies or work and help pave the way for postgraduate research degrees and academic careers. To take part, you must be a second-year undergraduate or above, or a graduate. The programme includes a funded eight-week summer research placement, mentoring, workshops and ongoing support.

Alumni support
All participants become part of our alumni community, which provides continued access to employability workshops, skills clinics, peer mentoring, industry and academic networking, events, and information about work experience and internships.

When do they run?

In2STEM
Runs across July and August each year.

In2Research
A year-long programme, with applications opening in August. You can express your interest in the 2025/26 programme in advance.

How can I take part?

Student and volunteer applications for In2STEM are open now until 2 February. We are always looking for STEM professionals to inspire the next generation of researchers and innovators by hosting a placement or mentoring young people.

For In2Research, applications are currently closed, but you can express your interest. If you’re looking to make a difference and help build inclusive pathways to research, you can support the programme by supervising a research placement or sharing insight into research careers as a mentor.

We are also keen to collaborate with organisations and individuals, whether through co-hosting workshops, arranging site visits, or helping spread the word through your networks. Please get in touch with info@in2scienceuk.org if you have any questions or would like to discuss working together.
